Why buy this hammock?

This hammock is the largest, most comfortable hammock currently available anywhere in the UK.

Suppose I only need a hammock for 1 or 2 persons?

The larger the hammock the more comfortable it is. You lie diagonally or straight across a real hammock and, with a larger size, the threads are under less tension. You achieve a flatter lying position and the hammock will last longer.

How does it compare with other types of hammock?

You will not find a larger hammock of this quality in the UK at a lower price. Every one of our hammocks is triple-woven and tension checked. We have been working directly with co-operatives in rural Mexico for more than 40 years and pride ourselves on the unsurpassable quality of our hammocks.

What about space?

Takes the same amount of space to hang as most Mexican style hammocks (approx. 3.5m min). If your space is greater than this, just extend upwards with extra rope. If you're unsure about space, fixing points or rope needed visit our handy "Space & Rope Calculator".

Should I go for cotton or nylon?

Our most popular hammock is the cotton Chacmool, for use both outside and inside the home. The nylon version is more resistant to wet weather, however there is nothing quite like the feel of natural cotton.

What about hammock stands?

The Guyed Post Hammock Stand is the ideal solution for our Chacmool Hammock. It's very strong and stable and will also accommodate the Cozaana. This stand is fixed using pegs into the ground which need to be removed when changing location. If you have one fixing point like a tree, post or wall then the 'Single End' version of this stand is a great alternative.

If you do source a hammock stand from another supplier please ensure that the fixing points at the top of the stand arms are at least 1.8m high and not less than 3.5m apart (ideally they should be 2m high and 3.65m apart). Many stands will be too small for our hammocks - if in doubt please check with us first. Go to the stands & fixings page or select a Guyed Post Stand from the 'Accessories' box above.

Why buy this hammock?

The only reason to buy this hammock in preference to the Chacmool is if price is the main consideration. Whilst the Cozaana is incredibly comfortable, you will notice a dramatic difference when comparing it to the Chacmool.

Suppose I only need a single hammock?

There is no excess material when any of our hammocks are used by only one person. All of the threads support your weight equally as the hammock opens to accommodate your height. This is the secret to the unsurpassed comfort of a triple-woven net Mexican Hammock. A smaller hammock results in more tension. If the hammock is too small you will feel squeezed and uncomfortable - as with conventional European hammocks. We do not supply hammocks smaller than the Cozaana for this reason.

What about space?

The Cozaana needs the same amount of space to hang as the Chacmool above (approx. 3.5m min). If you're unsure about space, fixing points or rope needed visit our handy "Hammock Space & Rope Calculator".

Should I go for cotton or nylon?

Our most popular Cozaana is the cotton version. The nylon style is more resistant to wet weather, however there is nothing quite like the feel of natural cotton.

What about hammock stands?

The Guyed Post Hammock Stand is the ideal solution for our Cozaana Hammock. It's very strong and stable and will also accommodate the Chacmool. This stand is fixed using pegs into the ground which need to be removed when changing location. If you have one fixing point like a tree, post or wall then the 'Single End' version of this stand is a great alternative.

If you do source a hammock stand from another supplier please ensure that the fixing points at the top of the stand arms are at least 1.8m high and not less than 3.5m apart. Many stands will be too small for our hammocks - if in doubt please check with us first. Go to the stands & fixings page or select a Guyed Post Stand from the 'Accessories' box above.

Advice on Quality

Triple-Woven

All of our hammocks are triple-woven, a technique where three threads are interwoven in a continuous, overlapping manner throughout the whole hammock body.

Superior Quality

Triple-woven hammocks are far superior to double-woven Mexican hammocks where the weave is very loose, providing much less support and which sag quickly. A double-woven hammock may be described as 'Large' or 'Huge' because it will appear to open very wide. There can be no comparison, however, when it comes to quality, comfort and longevity. In short - make sure your hammock is triple-woven.

Tension Checked

All of our hammocks are tension-checked to ensure that no threads bear excessive weight by being too tightly stretched in relation to the surrounding weave when the hammock is in use.

Loving Care

Our hammocks are made with loving care and attention by craftspeople who are proud of their reputation and skill and who would abhor the idea of being associated with a poor quality product.

Advice on Size

Which size is best for you?

You should bear the following in mind when trying to decide on the best size of hammock for you.

Space?

Our Chacmool and Cozaana hammocks are approximately equal in length and hence need roughly the same amount of space to hang (approx. 3.5m minimum). The difference is in the width of the net itself and the number of threads making up the main body. If you're unsure about space, fixing points or rope needed visit our handy "Rope & Space Calculator".

Comfort?

The Cozaana is an incredibly comfortable hammock, however you would notice a dramatic difference if you compared it to the Chacmool. The Chacmool is much more comfortable as you are under less tension due to the greater number of threads supporting you. You will achieve a much flatter lying position and feel completely relaxed and at ease.

So whats the verdict?

If cost is the prime factor (or weight when hiking, travelling, etc.) then the Cozaana is a good choice. In general, however, we would recommend the Chacmool. The price difference over the number of years you are likely to own your hammock is minimal and it is simply the most luxurious hammock you can buy.

Why Buy From Us

Quality Control

Size and quality vary enormously in the handwoven Mexican style of hammock. We work directly with a small number of craftspeople and have developed an excellent system of quality control which ensures that you receive the finest product of its type currently available.

Buy Direct

Please do not confuse our hammocks with other, so-called 'Mexican hammocks' which are often second grade, double-woven and purchased in bulk from intermediaries. The practice of distributing inferior quality hammocks and the introduction of additional handlers in the chain between producer and consumer does nothing to promote the use and enjoyment of hammocks in Europe or to support the Fair Trade movement.

Fair Trade

Purchasing from us not only stimulates the growth of fair trade but also helps to support and protect children in danger in Central America through our donations to Casa Alianza.

The Mexican Hammock Company was established in 1983 to provide an outlet in Europe for co-operative based groups in rural Mexico producing handwoven Mayan hammocks. We are a UK-Mexico joint venture which aims to develop reliable sources of income for rural communities in the southern Mexico.
